Students In Free Enterprise is so much more than a BCIT Student Club.
We are part of an international non-profit organization that is literally changing the world with over 1,500 college and university chapters, in over 40 countries world wide.
Working as a team of volunteers, we create economic opportunity in our communities by empowering and teaching others about market economics, entrepreneurship, success skills, financial literacy and business ethics.
We work with business leaders and educators and use the business concepts that we learn in the classroom to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in our community.
It is the mission of SIFE to bring together the top leaders of today and tomorrow to create a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business.
What do we do?
Our BCIT team aims to create economic development throughout the lower mainland by implementing sustainable programs which teach business success skills.
Founded in 2001, our SIFE chapter averages over 100 active members a year representing students from diverse educational backgrounds. Through the leadership of our Advisory Board and Executive Team we are able to plan and execute amazing and inspiring projects that directly address the needs of the lower mainland.
Our meetings are held Tuesday’s at 7am in SE6-204
Three of Our Most Impactful Projects Are
The Lion’s Lair Program uses a series of workshops taught by SIFE BCIT students to give struggling entrepreneurs, from the Downtown East Side, the necessary business skills and confidence to succeed with their micro-enterprises. This year, the Lion’s Lair Program will launch a new series that will focus on the needs of youth in our community.
The Spring Living Fair is our longest running project and is a community event that brings together Vancouver residents and local entrepreneurs to celebrate and increase awareness of local, ethical, environmentally friendly and sustainable business.
The Reservist Re-Entry Program helps returning Reservists translate military experience into educational equivalencies. By partnering with Honour House, a hospice for families of injured soldiers, SIFE BCIT has the opportunity to assist Canadian heroes as they transition from their military environment to their civilian careers.
Nationals
At the end of each year we travel to Regional and National competitions to showcase and present the results of our projects to prominent business leaders who serve as judges. The team who is named Canadian National Champion has the opportunity to advance to the prestigious SIFE World Cup.
